Salit Lahav
Musician, composer and arranger.
Salit began playing the piano at the age of 6. Six years later, she added an Accordion, to her instruments, participating and winning prizes in numerous national accordion competitions.
At the age of 15 she started her flute career at the “Thelma Yelin” high school, the most appreciated art school in Israel.
The flute became her main instrument, with which she performed with many different ensembles through her high school years.
She attended a summer school at “Berklee College of music” in the U.S.A, after gaining two scholarships (summer and full year term), due to special Excellency. During this time, she studied with George Garson followed by her participation in his ensemble during his visit to Israel.
Her musical education continued at “Rimon School of Music”, during which she played with numerous ensembles, including one hosting famous Dave Liebman, during his visit to Israel. In addition, she won the honorable first prize of “The Jazz Player Competition”, followed by an invitation to represent her country at the IASJ meeting in Finland.
At the meeting, Salit was chosen to participate in the “European youth orchestra” who performed all over Europe the next summer.
Salit finished her formal studies at the Jerusalem Musical Academy, and today she’s playing Flute, Saxophone, Piccolo and Accordion, in a variety of ensembles, musical clubs, shows on national television and theatres.
The last 6 years Salit is focusing on Latin music – playing with the Cuban group “Tipico” and in “The Israeli Salsa Band”. In 2006 she spent a few months in Brazil learning the special Brazilian choro style. Returning to Israel, Salit established the first Choro group in Israel (with Roee Ben Sira) called “Chorico”, the group performed all over Israel and in big festivals including “The Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat” and “The Spring Jazz Festival in Shuni” With the band, she released a CD called “The life in the 21st Century. Today Salit owns her own choro band called Chorole and the band’s CD is on his way.
These days her second CD called “Flower Shop”, is about to be released, a CD of world music, all original material by Salit Lahav and Uri Kleinam
